Capcom announced yesterday live on the Capcom Cup stream that local fighting game tournament, Battle Arena Melbourne (BAM), will feature in the 2020 Capcom Premier Event circuit alongside a wide variety of international events.

CouchWarriors, hosts of the Battle Arena Melbourne competition, is a not-for-profit fighting game tournament organiser based in Australia – hosting regular tournaments around the country to help grow both grassroots and recognition for the fighting game community in Australia.

News of this announcement follows CouchWarriors’ recent expansion of their South Australia and Sydney bases, which was reported by us back in October.

Cailan Kingsbury, President of CouchWarriors, has since stated to us “being able to give a platform for players in Australasia to gain international recognition represents a huge opportunity for the players, and we’re incredibly excited to be able to provide that platform.”

“We’re confident that this support from Capcom will bring more international talent to BAM12 than the region has ever seen, and are excited to see the region’s best take on world-class talent,” continued Cailan.

Cailan closed his statement to us by hinting at more news to come, which could mean that other titles could be joining the fray of announcements.

BAM12 will join the likes of Combo Breaker, SEA Major and CEO in the Capcom Premier Event road map for next year – which should ultimately attract more players from around the world to travel to Australia and compete against local talent.

Battle Arena Melbourne continues to grow year on year, and with this announcement the weekend is already set to deliver high calibre competition for our region to flourish in.

CouchWarriors announced the details for the next rendition of Battle Arena Melbourne over the weekend, which will be held on May 29th, with the event set to be hosted at the Melbourne Convention Centre once again.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Super Smash Bros Melee, Street Fighter V, Tekken and Mortal Kombat 11 are the first titles to be announced – with more announcements of titles set to be released leading up to the event.
